Current Fellows and Advisors
Renewals
First-year appointments may be considered for renewal for a second year, and second-year appointments for renewal for a third year.* Renewals are at the discretion of NASA and must be approved by the Fellow's Advisor and the NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) Center Representative. Appointment renewals are based on the need to continue the Fellow's research and the availability of funds.
Procedure for Second- or Third-Year Renewals of Appointments
- Fellow initiates the renewal process with the Advisor at least two months prior to the termination date of the appointment.
- Fellow completes the Application for Renewal and obtains the signature of the Advisor.
- Advisor completes the Advisor Evaluation of Fellow (Word version | PDF version) and attaches it to the Fellow's Application for Renewal (Word version | PDF version).
- Advisor provides both renewal documents to the NPP Center Representative for his/her approval signature.
- NPP Center Representative sends the approved renewal package to ORAU by fax (865-576-8293) or e-mail (Carole.Byars@orau.org or Janeen.Pointer@orau.org ) at least six (6) weeks prior to the Fellow's termination date.
*Support for the first and second year of the appointment comes from NPP programmatic funds. Third-year appointment renewals, however, are generally funded by the Fellow's Advisor and, therefore, depend on the availability of funds and the research needs. Fellowships associated with the Astrobiology Institute Research Opportunities usually do not exceed a total of two years.
